Florida Fun With Miami Scuba Diving
![]() |
Florida is known as the U.S. "sunshine state," so of course Miami scuba diving is a popular part of its recreational activities. Miami's near-tropical summer climate and mild winters make it an excellent vacation spot. The city is located in Miami-Dade County in the southeast section of Florida. This location puts it on the Atlantic Ocean coast, close to the Bahamas, the Florida Keys, and the Gulf of Mexico.
Miami is a tourist haven, so visitors shouldn't have any problems getting to their Miami scuba diving destination. Whether from the States or across the Atlantic, visitors can come by car, ship or plane. Air travel arrives through the Miami International Airport or through the Fort Lauderdale International Airport. Foreign visitors should be prepared to present their passports before entering Miami.
Once you've reached Miami, you'll have no trouble navigating the city to your Miami scuba diving location. The entire county is serviced by an elaborate bus mass transit system. The Metrorail and Metromover systems are train and people mover systems, respectively, within the city. Numerous taxis are available to take you to your lodgings prior to your Miami scuba diving appointment, but these may be expensive. Rental cars are often the most convenient solution for visitors to Miami's beaches and attractions.
Call the Miami Chamber of Commerce or Tourism to inquire about diving expeditions. Many licensed and reputable diving companies operate in the area. They would be glad to guide you on your Miami scuba diving adventure. Call several companies to ask what services and tours they provide, so that you have a choice from which to decide. Some divers want to see reefs, while others prefer to view certain sea creatures. Make your Miami scuba diving arrangements in advance, and confirm them once you arrive.
You may even wish to contact diving clubs and societies in Miami directly. These associations can certainly tell you where the diving hot spots are, and which diving tour guides are reputable. The experienced members of these organizations can probably give you a list of marvelous places to dive that the ordinary Miami scuba diving tourist would not be able to find.
Bring along an underwater digital camera or video recorder to record you trip. You might even be able to rent a helmet-mounted video camera so that you can record your Miami scuba diving trip hands-free. Your encounter with the shark, the eel, or even the octopus will be recorded as proof of your diving bravery. Spend some time on the excellent beaches if you can, but you will no doubt want to stay underwater as long as possible during your Miami scuba diving vacation.
